Steps and Procedures
for Buying and Building a Bamboo Home

Contact us for detailed information and questions. Be prepared to discuss where you want to build, and what you plan on using it for (i.e. vacation rental, primary dwelling, guest cottage). Make a list of questions you would like answered.
 
Tour a bamboo home. We have built over 40 bamboo homes in Hawaii. We will reimburse round trip airfare to visit one of these homes if you purchase a home. Bring your camera, questions, and ideas of what you would do with the home on your property.
 
Decide what you want. There are many options for each home, such as an extended porch and deck and bamboo cabinets. Go over these options carefully for your order.
 
Review your budget for the entire project. Take into account how much it will cost to prepare for and finish the project, such as permits, infrastructure, platform, roofing, floors, electrical, plumbing, doors, windows, cabinets, appliances and all contractors and labor.
 
Sign A&E Design contract and provide a deposit. If you wish to customize buildings or floor plans or submit for building permit before house construction or submit for a building loan or mortgage, an Architecture & Engineering Design Contract will preceed the building contract.
 
Sign Bamboo Building contract and provide 50% deposit. The contract will state clearly what you are purchasing, the costs, and the estimated time of arrival of your house. You provide BTC with 50% of the total cost of the house.
 
Receive the drawings and get a building permit. Obtain building blueprints from us signed by an architect and an engineer. There is a fee for the prints and for the review by the architect and
engineer. Hire a permit expediter or take these yourself to your local building permit office. You need to provide building site and local building code information. There is a fee for a building permit. The fee and the time required to obtain a building permit varies with each jurisdiction.
 
The bamboo house is built in Vietnam. Once we receive the deposit we begin building the house at the factory. Timeline for construction depends on the number of orders and season of the year. After the house is built, it is disassembled, put in a container and shipped by boat. Shipping takes about one month. Expect to have your house shipped within 5 months of your order.
 
Build the platform with electrical and plumbing access. This is to be ready when the house
arrives. You can hire someone to do this or do it yourself. You need permits for plumbing, electrical and sewage systems. We can provide the blueprints for the platform.
 
Provide 50% final payment. When the house is shipped you are responsible for paying the remaining 50% of the cost of the house.
 
The house is shipped to the port nearest you. Shipping takes about one month. When the
container arrives, you pay for the container shipment and entry fees.
 
Transport the house to the construction site. You are responsible for transporting the 20' or 40'
container or unloading the container onto a truck and transporting it to your house site.
 
Assemble the house using your construction crew. This will take 4 to 10 days. One of our
consultants should be hired to supervise and assure quality assembly.
 
Finish the House. Install roofing material, doors, windows, electrical, plumbing, insulation, flooring, appliances, furniture. Get the roofing material on right away, before the bamboo gets wet. then doors, windows, electrical, plumbing. Seal cracks and joints with insulation and caulk to make house airtight and bug proof. Install finished flooring.
 
Get inspections for plumbing and electrical, as soon as you complete them.
 
Bamboo Technologies will inspect the house for final compliance for building codes. We want to make sure every home is built perfectly and every customer satisfied.
 
Move in. Throw a house-warming party. It will warm your friends as much as it will warm your new home.
